Columbia Room is a ten-seat bar located in the back of The Passenger where Derek has tailored the room, cocktails and service to be among the top cocktail bars in the world and yet unique for what it is: his dream bar. Derek and his exceptional staff have garnered three stars from the Washington Post, and earned a spot in GQ’s top 25 cocktail bars list, among many other accolades. The Columbia Room matches creativity with seasonality, classic drinks with innovative techniques and fine service with a friendly character.


Named after the famous Iggy Pop song, The Passenger is the brainchild of Derek and Tom Brown. It has been described as a cocktail saloon and takes pride in serving high-quality cocktails in an unassuming and laid-back environment. The Passenger has been recognized in Bon Appetit’s Top 10 Best New Cocktail Bars, USA Today’s Top 10 American Cocktail Lounges, Travel & Leisure’s Top 10 American Cocktail Bars, and US Airways magazine’s 14 Most Trendsetting Restaurants in the U.S.


During the winter of 2012, James Beard Award-winning Chef RJ Cooper had to step away from his kitchen to undergo open-heart surgery. Along with the effort of the Rogue 24 team, our team developed and executed Rogue Sessions during his recovery in partnership with Gilt City, The Food Network’s City Eats, and the Share Our Strength organization.

In RJ’s place ten of his friends, some of the nation’s most exciting chefs, took over Rogue 24’s kitchen, including Chef Bryan Voltaggio of VOLT in Frederick, MD; James Beard Award-winning Chef José Andrés and Rubén García of ThinkFood Group; James Beard Award-winning Chef John Currence of City Grocery in Oxford, MS; Chef Tim Byres of SMOKE in Dallas, TX; Jennifer Carroll from Philadelphia, PA; Washington’s 2010 Chef of the Year Chef Scott Drewno of The Source in Washington D.C.; Chef Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore; and Chef Katsuya Fukushima of Daikaya in Washington D.C.


Marriott has been an partner in our mission to get the Rickey recognized as D.C.’s native cocktail. Together we unveiled a plaque to mark the birthplace of the Rickey and celebrated the D.C. Council’s proclamation declaring July Rickey Month and the Rickey the native cocktail of D.C.


We have worked together with Mexico’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food, through the Embassy of Mexico on projects to promote Tequila and Mezcal.
